Update: The helicopter crew successfully applied 8,000 gallons of dust-binding material called Dustbind Plus mixed with water on the rock from the LBNF/DUNE project in the Open Cut. We will continue to closely monitor the effectiveness of our dust mitigation measures.

Helicopter flights will require short, temporary closures beginning 8 a.m. through early afternoon in Lead, SD.
A helicopter will be applying a dust-binding material to the excavated rock in the Open Cut from the LBNF/DUNE project on Wednesday, Oct. 19, beginning around 8 a.m.
Crews on the ground will briefly close Route 85 to traffic as required. The short, temporary closures of Route 85 will happen over the course of about 5 hours and take place about a quarter mile west of Route 385, near the Lead city limits.
In addition, ground personnel will close the Homestake Trail for the full duration of the helicopter flights.
